The deregulation of the UK electricity industry opened the door to new, agile, low-cost power generators. Star Energy was one of the first to offer an alternative to traditional generators, using an innovative integrated business model that places power-generating capacity adjacent to production wells and, where possible, connections to the national grid.

In 2002 we completed a £4 million investment programme in power generation at Humbly Grove and Storrington, at each location installing the latest low-emission gas-turbine generators.

Our total installed generating capacity is around 25 MW, and many of our sites are suitable for additional power generation schemes.

We currently generate electricity at Welton ( 1 MW gas engine generator), Gainsborough (9 MW gas engines), Albury ( 2 MW gas engines), Humbly Grove (three 5MW Siemens gas turbine generators) and Palmers Wood ( gas engine). As well as providing power for Star Energy's plant, excess electricity is sold via local grid connections under contract to SmartestEnergy.
