Roland Wessel
Chief Executive Officer
Roland is a geology graduate with over 25 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. The majority of Roland’s career has been spent in the drilling services sector and he has undertaken managerial assignments in most of the active oil and gas regions of the world including West Africa, the Middle East, the North Sea, and North and South America. Roland co-founded Star Energy in 1999. As Chief Executive Officer, Roland has overall responsibility for the strategic development of the Group.

Colin Judd
Finance Director
Colin has an honours degree in engineering and management, and qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse in 1979. His experience includes various professional accounting positions with Price Waterhouse in the UK, Europe and the Far East, various UK and overseas-based financial management positions with the former Aggreko division of Christian Salvesen plc, and financial directorships with service companies to the oil and gas industry. As Financial Director, Colin is responsible for the Group's financial reporting, treasury and financial management functions.

Melvyn Horgan
Technical Director
Melvyn gained a PhD in Mathematics before training as a reservoir engineer with British Gas. His experience includes evaluating and appraising exploration projects, simulating field production and forecasting reservoir production for Burmah Oil. As technical director for Duke Engineering, he was responsible for managing multi-disciplinary teams in geology, geophysics, reservoir evaluation, simulation, field development and enhanced oil recovery projects. As Technical Director, Melvyn is responsible for the sub-surface engineering, drilling and technical evaluation activities for the Group.

Roger Pearson
Managing Director, Gas Storage Division
Graduating as a chemical engineer, Roger has held a number of senior project management positions in the oil and gas industry on facilities such as Thistle, Rough Storage, Bruce and Liverpool Bay. He joined Star Energy in 2000 as Managing Director for the Company's Weald Basin assets, and was appointed to the Board in 2005 as Group Operations Director. Roger is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. Roger is responsible for the development and operations of the Group's gas storage projects.

Julie Barlow
Managing Director, Production Division
Julie completed her Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification in 1996. Julie has over 18 years experience in the energy industry. She spent 7 years in the Energy Management Sector, before joing The Pentex Group in 1999 as Financial Controller and Company Secretary. After the acquisition of The Pentex Group by Star Energy in 2005, she was promoted to Operations Financial Controller and in 2007 was promoted to Managing Director of the Production Division. As Managing Director for the Production Division, Julie is responsible for the running of day to day operations for UK onshore oil and gas production.

Samantha Paget
Group Human Resources Manager
After graduating from University College London in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Italian, Samantha moved to Paris where she taught English to French business people. She joined Star Energy in 2004 as Group Administration Manager with added HR responsibility, and then took over Star Energy's HR function in 2005 when she became Group Human Resources Manager. Samantha is responsible for upholding the Group's HR Policy.

Jefry Mohd Johari
Strategic Planning Manager
Jefry graduated with a degree in Finance from University of Illinois (Chicago) in 1997. He joined Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in 1998 as Business Analyst in the Corporate Planning Division. Jefry then joined another PETRONAS subsidiary, Gas District Cooling, as a Senior Business & Commercial Analyst in 2003, and was promoted to Business Development Manager for the Gas Business Unit before joining Star Energy in 2009 as Strategic Planning Manager. Jefry is responsible for strategising the Company's growth and future business direction as well as being the primary interface for communication with Star Energy's parent company, PETRONAS.

Thamala Perera
General Counsel
Thamala was called to the Bar in 2000 and completed her Masters in European Law (LLM) at Kings College London in 2003. Thamala has worked in private practice at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, The Law Reports and at Ofgem prior to joing Star Energy in 2008 to lead the ongoing case of Bocardo SA v Star Energy, which is pending an appeal to the Supreme Court. Thamala heads up the legal function at Star Energy, its subsidiary companies and sister companies and advises the Group's gas storage and production division.
